Panzerkampfwagen I tank (Panzer I) German tank

Panzerkampfwagen I

The Panzer I was a light tank produced in Germany from 1934 to 1936. The tank had only 13 mm armor designed for protection against small arms fire and it was only armed with two machine guns. Intended as a training tank, the Panzer I was pressed into combat service in the Spanish Civil War and in the invasion of Poland, suffering unacceptable losses. Due to a shortage of tanks, the Panzer I continued to play minor roles in the invasions of France, North Africa and Russia. A total of 833 Panzer Is were built.
