Germany's War Economy

Germany was the last major power to convert their economy to a full war-time effort, so the first years of World War II did not bring about any great change in the German economy. This was due to several reasons: the Nazi idealization of German women as homemakers, reluctance to impose rationing on the German population, availability of forced labor from conquered territories, and the Nazi policy to appropriate capital as well as resources from occupied countries.

But as the war progressed, German factories were eventually converted for war production and by late 1944, nearly the entire German economy was dedicated to military production.
