Ukraine work recruitment

Germany calls you!

In January 1942, recruitment of Ukrainian workers to come to Germany was started. One announcement read, "On January 28, the first special train will leave for Germany with hot meals in Kiev, Zdolbunov and Przemysl."

A Kiev newspaper advertised, "Germany calls you! Go to Beautiful Germany! 100,000 Ukrainians are already working in free Germany. What about you?"

But the Ukrainian workers were inhumanely treated, and as news of this reached the Ukraine, volunteers failed to come in sufficient numbers. Ukrainians were then forced into service as slave labor. Nazi propaganda poster reads, "I live in a German family and feel just fine".
