Paratroopers in Normandy

The American airborne landings in Normandy on the night of June 5-6, 1944, were composed of gliders and their cargo, as well as paratroopers. The paratroopers arrived with only what they could carry on their persons, so they often attached increased amount of gear to themselves. Any additional supplies came in the gliders. Pictured here are paratroopers after making successful landings in Normandy. The patch of the 101st Airborne Division can be seen on many of the soldiers in the photo.
