The 60 foot cross is located in a wooded area on the campus of University of the South, Sewanee, TN, on a bluff of the Cumberland Plateau. It overlooks Franklin County Valley.

Text at base of cross reads:

To the sons of Sewanee who answered their country's call to service win the World War 1917-1918

To those from the University, the Military Academy, Sewanee, and all Franklin County in World War II. 1941-1945.

The cross was constructed in 1922, after World War I, to honor those who died in the "war to end all wars". Now it honors all from Franklin county who have died in wars since WWI.
