French Spitfire Mark IX

A model of a Supermarine Spitfire Mk IX fighter plane painted with the colors of the French Air Force.

This model of Spitfire carried two 22mm cannons and two 50 caliber machine guns and had clipped wings to increase the rate of roll to be competitive with the German FW 190. The Free French and the Vichy French air force units in North Africa were merged in January 1943 and re-equipped with Allied aircraft. Model was made by William Alcott.
