Aerial view of Pearl Harbor looking southwest

Aerial view of Pearl Harbor looking southwest over Ford Island and Battleship row about five weeks prior to the attack on December 7, 1941. Three battleships are visible and possibly a fourth. At the southern most end of battleship row is an American aircraft carrier. In the months before the Pearl Harbor attack, it was common for half of the battleship fleet and an aricraft carrier to be at sea conducting war games, while the other half of the fleet with an aircraft carrier would be in port. December 7th was unususal in that the aircraft carriers were away delivering aircraft to American outposts, while the entire battleship fleet was in port.
