WII poster: Rosie the Riveter

U.S. Women in the
Work Place - WWII

World War II caused shortages of labor in defense industries, non-military services, and armed forces, which prompted the government to encourage women to enter the work force.

They became vital to the war effort, doing many jobs filled only by men in the past, including work in automobile and munitions plants.
